The Montgomery Awards
Excellence in Planning and Design
The Montgomery Awards acknowledge outstanding land developments and revitalization achievements in our county.  We had five exceptional 2008 award winners.  The awards are dedicated to raising planning and design awareness in our communities and honor the developers, consultants, organizations, and municipalities for their commitment and contribution to the enhancement of Montgomery County This prestigious program has two major award categories.  One focuses on excellence in land development and planning concepts.  The other recognizes successful revitalization projects and programs.  The nomination deadline for The Montgomery Awards is the last Friday in April.  Winning entries receive local and regional publicity and are featured at an awards ceremony.  (Brochure on The Montgomery Awards)

Award Categories

Land Development Award—This award promotes awareness of good design and planning in our communities by recognizing excellence in land development and innovative planning concepts.  It embraces and continues the overall vision of the former Land Development Awards Program.  That distinguished county program awarded 147 projects between 1967 and 2005.  The Land Development Award recognizes projects that exemplify exceptional site planning and design, innovative planning concepts, environmental sensitivity, or the preservation of natural and cultural amenities.  Projects can include a variety of residential, office, and commercial developments as well as historic preservation projects, municipal open space and park planning efforts, and community improvements.  This award acknowledges the developers, consultants, and municipalities responsible for these exceptional projects.  Eligibility and Nomination Requirements for The Land Development Award

Revitalization Award—This award fosters revitalization in Montgomery County by recognizing successful revitalization projects and programs.  It exemplifies the county’s belief that our older, established communities are a valuable asset and are important to the overall vitality of the county.  These historic areas, with their distinct character, contribute to the diversity of the regional economy.  Successful projects and programs help stabilize and renew these areas, creating more vibrant and attractive places.  Eligible entries can include buildings, streetscape improvements, community enhancements, Main Street programs, and façade improvement programs.  This award recognizes the community leaders, organizations, and agencies for the revitalization achievements that improve, and often transform, our communities.  Eligibility and Nomination Requirements for The Revitalization Award
